The Birth of the Blues
A real fire in the belly describes the driving force of original blues musicians who overcame insurmountable obstacles to chase their art. The Birth of the Blues, representing this history, is built around a partially formed Grecian urn, a symbol of the birth of civilization, sculpted into a geode of natural periwinkle Angelite. The partially formed urn, itself being born, as if from a hatching egg, is giving birth to a score of 20 brilliant blue Topaz gemstones tumbling down the cascade of the marble falls. The fire in the belly is a 10x8 mm, 2.50 carat, clear Madeira Citrine that catches the overhead light to reveal itself in time. (Height 7 ½ ")
